From June to October, the Kenyan coast transforms into a wave paradise, boasting swells between 1.5m and 3.5m on those epic days! When the wind kicks up, it’s like nature’s cue for kite surfers to unleash their inner wave warriors with a kite and directional board. On those chillier wind days, KiteMotion School rolls out the red carpet for beginner surfing lessons right in front of the Flamboyant Hotel at Diani Beach Centrum! Plus, we offer rentals for our cozy 6’ and 8.2’ soft-top surfboards. While the surf conditions dance to the tune of wind and tides, with a sprinkle of good timing, those waves can be a total blast, especially for newbies!

KiteMotion instructor will kick off the session with a beach introduction, addressing essential topics such as wave formation, swells, tides, rip currents, and surf etiquette. You will progressively practice fundamental surfing techniques on the beach, focusing on how to position yourself on the board, adopt the correct stance, and perfect the pop-up (the transition from lying down to standing, also known as the take-off). Once you head into the water, your instructor will be by your side at all times, offering valuable tips and guidance. In your initial lessons, you will ride in knee to waist-high waves, remaining close to the shore.
With a large surfboard, an experienced instructor, and the right conditions, you could be standing up on your board by the very first day!
